I was thinking.....yes! really!
So i was thinking to myself, hmmmmm, that's a wierd expression...who else would you be thinking to?
eeerrrrrr
Ok back to my point! Focus Focus!
SO I was trying to figure out what the epitomy of beauty is to me and the perfect example of beauty came to my mind. Hands down the Epitomy of beauty is Josefina Sanchez aka my mom.
She's the most amazing person that i have EVER come across. She is the backbone to our family unit. She and her strength are the reason we're still a family. She's worked hard our whole lives to get us to where we are now. She's the reason they decided to buy the house we live in, the house we grew up in, the house we can always go back to. She has put up with so much and all she asks for in return is a little time.
She would get up before the crack of dawn to get the tamales she stayed up late making the night before ready, then get her 3 small girls ready for the journey down town. She would lug literally hundreds of tamales and 3 little girls all the way to Downtown L.A. on the bus and we had to be there before 6 am. Why? well because the dress manufacturer that would sell their dresses at a wholesale price opened at 7.
While we waited in line for them to open the doors and allow all these COWS to trample in and act like wild animals fighting over prime carcasses she would sell the tamales she worked so hard to make. She would sell ALL of them in less than the hour that we had to wait. Everyone knew my moms tamales and even people that weren't going to go in to buy dresses would go in the building in search of my moms tamales.
Once the bags that carried the tamales were empty we would wait for the owner of the place to single us three girls out and sneak us in before everyone else came in. They did this because they too had fallen in to my mothers spell. To know her is to love her. To know her is to appreciate the beautiful, giving, loving humanitarian that she is.
Once inside we three small girls i'm talking like 5ish 7 ish 10 ish little girls would scope out the best dresses. We knew exactly what to go for. We knew exactly what my moms clientelle would choose to buy. We knew exactly what dresses would not end up hanging in the garage cuz no one wanted to buy them. Once we found them we would wrap our arms around the bunch of hanging dresses for dear life. We knew what was coming. We ain't no dummies!
Once we were set the owners would open the doors and in came the trampling beasts. As soon as we saw them run in our grips would lock on these dresses cuz we knew that if we didn't they would be torn from our grips. We were, for lack of better words, physically abused for these damn dresses! Freakin wild Hefers!!
We would come out of that place every Saturday looking like we've been through war. Wire hanger gashes, (NO WIRE HANGERS!!!!! ) bruises, fingernail scratches and sore muscles but with smiles on our faces!. Smiles because it was our weekly adventure. Smiles because we pulled one on those hefers!! Smiles because after all the fighting and pulling and yelling and name calling our little arms never let go of the dresses. The BEST dresses. Smiles because we knew in our own little way we were helping our mother. Our mother that worked so hard and kept going. She DESERVED the best dresses.
Once the dresses were paid for, with the money she had just made from the tamales and from the dresses she sold the week before, she would stuff these huge duffel bags, i'm talking HUGE, with the dresses, grab her girls and got us all on a bus to go back home. Where, upon our arrival, usually before 9 am mind you, she would hang all the dresses up, feed us, clean up,dress us, and take us preaching.
When we came back she would start making her calls to let the ladies know the fresh supply of dresses were in and they were welcome to stop by and see if there was anything they liked....There always was =)
Then of course, and she wouldn't have it any other way, she would feed anyone that did stop by, and don't even think of turning down her offer for food if you're hungry. It's the biggest offense to her if you do. And she can tell...trust me! Besides, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you did cuz i have yet to find someone that does not like her cooking If you didn't eat you'd be left with a feeling of having missed out on something good.
If you notice i still haven't made mention to her sitting down and taking a breather. The reason for this is because, well, to this day she still hasn't sat down and taken a breather. She's tireless, invincible.....or so we'd like to think........
Unfortunately, her body is her nemesis.....
For as long as i can remember my mother has been in pain....Excrutiating pain.....and no one knows why.....countless doctors have yet to find out exactly whats wrong with her.....if it's not one thing its another.....masses in her uterus......threats of cancer in her stomach.......kidney stones.......kidney masses.....osteoperosis......arthritis......dislocated vertabraes.......torn ligaments........the list goes on =( sprinkle in stress, anxiety, and depression and you have a recipe for disaster.....
Well not with my mother.....she's tireless....she's invincible ....she soldiers on......she loves unconditionally, God and humanity.......She'll always have a "taco" for you......She helps without being asked and expects nothing in return......she's beauty incarnate....and as much as we do or don't try we'll NEVER be able to repay all she's done for us ........but there's no harm in trying....
